Medical Tests for Premature Babies
Most preemies (usually ELBW and VLBW) will have a number of tests in the hospital to rule out or provide early detection of certain common medical problems. Common tests include:
- Chest X-ray – for breathing and lung problems
- Abdomen X-ray—for bowel problems
- ECG and ECHO – for heart problems
- Head ultrasound – for abnormalities in or around the brain
- Eye test – for eye problems
- Hearing test – for hearing and developmental problems
