What is a Premature Baby
A baby born less than 37 weeks gestation (after conception) is considered premature. Babies born with a birth weight of less than (<) 1000 grams are considered to have an extremely low birth weight, (ELBW). Babies who weigh between 1000 grams and <1500 grams are considered to be very low birth weight (VLBW). Babies born between 1500 grams and less than 2500 grams are considered to be low birth weight (LBW).
